You may need to take ownership to be able to edit the NTFS security. And of course everything you do could apply to just one folder, or also to all sub folders contained in the folder in it, depending on which checkboxes you set. And some rights may also inherit to sub folders, and some might not. NTFS security attributes can be quite complicated...
