xEdit (tes5edit) Registry error. Please help! w/Bug report

Post by broken_modder »

Have no idea where to turn. Hopefully there is someone here experienced with regedit. Hopefully someone can help me here. Anyways I've been researching modding Skyrim for PC for the last week. Intensely. Throughout that process Ive reinstalled the game back and forth many times. Never having any problems. Now I decided to reinstall everything again, this inlcuded Steam, tes5, NMM, LOOT, TES5edit, ect. If it doesnt install to directory I deleted them and then re-extracted the zip. Anyways so when I run TES5edit (xedit) I get some strange error. > Error Invalid type for". > Here's the bug report:

Hopefully someone can help. I cant do squat until I can use TES5.

This may have something to do with running my registry cleaner from Tweaknow then defragging it.
I will say that I run the reg cleaner everytime I uninstall something and never had any issues. But now that I'm using all these new modding programs....uuuggghhh

Also when I reinstalled everything this time, including Steam, TES5edit, nexus mod manager ect. I reinstalled them to another Drive as everyone suggests. (did try running tes5edit from the skyrim games folder)

I run everything in administrator in case you were wondering.
Help is much appreciated. Am willing to send you CASH via paypal for your expertise. Thank you.

TES5Edit is not written by me. It seems that TES5Edit was compiled with my madExcept library, so when a crash occurs, you get a proper bug report. I don't have anything to do with TES5Edit, other than that. I don't have the TES5Edit source code, I have never even heard of it until now. So there's really nothing I can do to help you.

Try contacting the TES5Edit developer. Send this bug report to him, I think it should help him figuring out why his program crashed on your PC.

Indeed. Well I appreciate your response. I'm trying to find out who he is and what not. Hopefully I can track him down. Just a quick question though. Are you familiar with bug reports of this style/format? These errors are they registry related..? and if so what would be your take on it, if you dont mind me asking? :)

These crash reports are created by my madExcept library. This specific bug report seems to indicate that TES5Edit tried to read a registry value, but the registry value had a non-expected data format. Can't say which exact registry value it was, though.

After combing the reg. There are only 6 entries related to tes5edit. I backed them all up, then deleted. Didnt work. So I restored them all. Do you know of a way to change reg keys data format?

If you know which key you need to change and which format it should have then changing it shouldn't be a big problem. But we don't know either.

Really, your best chance is to contect the tes5edit developer.
